On November 26 the Chairperson of the NA Standing Committee on European Integration Ms. Naira Zohrabyan received the members of the National Assembly of the Republic of France, members of the Committee on Foreign Relations Mr. Christian Bataille and Mr. Roland Blum, who arrived in the region to implement fact-finding mission. The Premier Counsellor of the French Embassy to the Republic of Armenia Mr. Christian Beck attended the meeting.

Welcoming the European colleagues Ms. Zohrabyan highly assessed the Armenian-French political, as well as, the developing economic relations, and its testimony was the entrance of the Orange Company to Armenia. Touching upon the Armenian-French multilateral relations, she mentioned about the effective cooperation of the Armenian-French Parliamentary Friendship Groups, highlighting the developing community relations between the two countries, the testimony of which was the close cooperation of more than 20 cities of Armenia and France. During the meeting issues of regional importance were discussed. The sides touched upon the normalization of the Armenian-Turkish relations, the problem of the settlement of the NK conflict, the efforts of France made within OSCE Minsk Group. Ms. Zohrabyan referred to the announcements voiced recently by the President of Azerbaijan Mr. Ilham Aliyev and Defence Minister Mr. Safar Abiyev on the settlement of the Artsakh conflict, once again reiterating that Armenia saw the settlement of the conflict within the OSCE Minsk Group, through peaceful negotiations: “We don’t want war, but it’s not possible to frighten us by war,” the Committee Chairperson stressed.

During the meeting the Armenian and French colleagues touched upon the EU Eastern Partnership initiative and the announcement of the Foreign Minister of the Russian Federation, which, according to Ms. Naira Zohrabyan, was a good basis for the regional cooperation.

The sides also touched upon the events, which occurred after 2008 presidential elections and the report made by the NA Committee, which was created for the inquiry of the March 1 events, and the steps taken for the study of the implementation of the included proposals.
